Age Requirements for Conclusion and Termination of an Employment Contract

Summary/Abstract: The problems of ensuring of principal of equality of age are relevant in labour law as well. Although international documents and Directives of the EU provide basis for discrimination on the ground of age at work, they provide as well exceptions that justify such discrimination. The article deals with cases of discrimination on the ground of age within the conclusion, amendment and termination of an employment contract and the exceptions justifying application of different clauses regarding age at work. In other words, the article analyses legal acts of Lithuania which might cause ground for discrimination or which provide cases for justification of discrimination. Attention is drawn to the fact that upon the analysis of legal acts it was detected that legal acts of Lithuania contain provisions of discriminating nature as well.
