Summary/Abstract: This study is a response to a German theologian who contested vehemently the personality of Constantine the Great because of certain actions which were considered a taboo in theology. He asked me who had the idea of sanctifying him. I replied by referral to the historical and political context, in whose absence any intercession about the emperor is futile, and by another referral to Saint Mary the Egyptian, although I could have chosen a biblical example for his power of understanding. The main idea of the study is that we can see the emperor’s personality in its integrity, without having the complex that the Church had sanctified an unsuitable person. A short presentation of how he and his faithful mother are perceived in the old Romanian theology illustrates the cult of the two saint emperors on Romanian land and their importance for the re-enforcement of our true faith.
