Summary/Abstract: Cultural values such as traditions and customs, beliefs, celebrations, entertainments, anecdotes, jokes, and jests of the individuals performing the same profession are among the subjects that professional folklore focuses on. The professional folklore, which is expressed as “occupational folklore” or “occupational folklife” in the folklore research in the west, should be investigated covering not only folklore of traditional professions yields but also modern professions. In this regard, physician folklore attracts attention as one of the areas that are not very popular in the studies of professional folklore. As in other occupational groups, some folklore works are created and transferred among these healthcare workers in white aprons by human nature. Offering two basic fields: internal and surgical sciences for those who want to specialize in the profession by winning the specialization exam after medical education, this profession divides its performers into two basic groups as internal and surgical branch physicians. Assuming that particular traits exist in certain people, stereotypes which express the mental structures that divide people into various kinds and types have been formed as a result of this division. In other words, the opinions, comments, and judgments of physicians about their colleagues, in particular, internal or surgical branch physicians, have caused the emergence of stereotypes related to physicians working in different branches. In this academic paper, the stereotypes in the physician's folklore will be determined based on the interviews with physicians of Balikesir Atatürk City Hospital. Distinguishing qualities of physicians in different branches that emerges based on these stereotypes and jokes made related to these stereotypes will be handled. These assessments will also give information about the view of the physicians, who are considered to be a high-status group in society, to the sub-branches within themselves.
