Summary/Abstract: The Golden Horn (Halic), which has hosted many civilizations throughout history and has gained a place in literature mainly as a summer and entertainment place where there were picnic areas until the industrial revolution, has entered into a process which has developed with the industrial revolution but has also destroyed itself with its development. With this big change, a great industrial competition emerging in and around the Golden Horn has started. The coasts of the Golden Horn started to be used as storage areas, factories were opened, it turned into an industrial zone, shipyard was opened and even a slaughter house was opened in Sutluce. Wastes of factories polluted the sea water and an intensive odor formed. With the newly-opened roads and tramway; many points of the city were connected to Valley of the Golden Horn. The Golden Horn, which turned from the identity of picnic and entertainment place to the identity of industrial zone, has become the center of environmental pollution and wastes. The Golden Horn has lost its bright days. Cleaning Works were started in and around the Golden Horn as of 1981. A big change occurred in the Golden Horn in 1985 and the shipyard and industrial enterprises were moved. The sea was cleaned up from mud and was made suitable for swimming. Marine shipping, which came to a standstill due to mud, was revitalized. Today, the Golden Horn has become a center in which there are museums, five-star hotels, universities, congress center and non-governmental organizations. Green areas and public facilities have taken the place of industrial enterprises. In the present article, the mentioned process of the Golden Horn was examined with the eye of an art historian and it was tried to catch a point of view with the methods of literature review, interview and field review.
