Dysphemism as a Word-Formation Process

Summary/Abstract: The present paper aims at analyzing the linguistic manifestations of taboo (dysphemism, euphemism, and orthophemism), taking into account the politeness and the impoliteness theories. We focused on dysphemisms which are a pragmalinguistic phenomenon having both positive (emotional discharge) and negative effects (the loss of social status).
