Summary/Abstract: This study attempts to view and connect the lexical category of the type of verb situation (traditionally Aktionsart) and the grammatical category of aspect in the English and the Romanian language in a new and different way. The aim of the research is to determine the existing correlations between the analyzed categories in the two languages. This study of English and Romanian gives a better insight into the nature of the type of verb situation and aspect in both languages as well as an opportunity to establish parametric and systematic similarities and differences, giving a specific contribution to aspectology in general. It is of great importance to determine the similarities and differences between the systems of the two languages in order to contribute to a better and more comprehensive insight and uniformity of approaches and terminology in the grammatical traditions of the two studied linguistic systems. It has to be pointed out that in the older Romanian literature, aspect and the type of verb situation were not treated as independent verb categories; they were considered tenses. For that reason, the comparison with the English verb system will help distinguish the mentioned categories in Romanian and contribute to a better and more complete understanding of Romanian aspectology. This scientific research proves that aspectual oppositions exist as a separate verbal category in Romanian as well, which represents a unique contribution to the Romanian aspectology which has not been studied in this manner before.
