Summary/Abstract: The negative meaning of the freedom requires an understanding of the state of nature. In this article we analyze how the negative freedom is understood. Furthermore, we will show which are the weaknesses and the strong parts of the negative freedom. Besides that, we will focus upon how the concept of negative freedom is understood by John Stuart Mill. We will argue that the negative freedom is better then a positive meaning of the freedom.
