Summary/Abstract: The human ability to “cope in life” is not, as Daniel Goleman asserted at the end of the 20th century, based only on an individual’s cognitive skills. Goleman’s assertion decisively changed the way that individuals think about man’s “emotional talents,” but the reality is that emotional skills are largely congenital, even though current research demonstrates that they can be developed. Indeed, research in the social sciences has been focusing on emotional intelligence, which may be an important determinant of education quality. This article presents the results of research on the state of the emotional intelligence of students who are preparing to become teachers. This research is part of a broader project that seeks to determine the emotional factors that aid the education process.
