Summary/Abstract: The Cage's notion of time and space and their significance for understanding compositional work has changed with development of the neoavant-garde composer's ideas. Their transformation reflects a number of concepts contained in writings and lectures. The subject of the article is development of thoughts contained in Silence, in which it comes from the conception of time as a form-creating factor, to treatment of spacetime as a holistic and imaginary formula describing Cage's art philosophy. The lecture Defense of Erik Satie is also the key to the argument, in which Cage directly lectures his image of the structure, form, method and material, concepts related to the way he imagines time and space.
