Summary/Abstract: This study deals with the problem of the natural world and the philosophy of nurture in the early works of the influential Czech philosopher of the 20th Century Jan Patočka. His wide span of interest and his philosophy of education doesn’t only touch the problems of philosophy, but also the area of learning and nurture. Patočka is considered one of the first Czechoslovak philosophers contributing to the development of philosophy of education. The study explores the relationship between the problem of upbringing and the problem of the natural world and its connection with the contemporary issues in the realm of nurture and education. In relation to this problem, the study sketches out the relationship between philosophy and science, and it deals with the question of today’s role of philosophy in the field of upbringing and education, and to what extent it is needed in this sphere today. It also looks for a possible connection between philosophy and pedagogy, the two spheres, which requires special attention in regards to education and learning.
