Summary/Abstract: This paper is based on the Benedictine arrival to the east Adriatic coast and establishing the monasteries in the south from Dubrovnik.Since the monks who arrived from the southern Italy played the key role in spreading the Benedictine order, initially there were the abbots of Italian origin at the head of abbeys founded in the areas between Kotor and Lježa, but there is almost no remaining evidence regarding that. It is certain that in the late 14th and early 15th century Saint George’s Abbey near Perasto was governed by three Italian abbots – William de Alareno, Anthony from Bitonto and Augustin from Ascoli. Almost simultaneously Saint Mary of Ratac’s Abbey was also ruled by the Italian abbots Giovanni from the famous abbey Sancta Maria de Rambona near the Italian town Macerata and Butius from Saint Nicolas’ on the Tremiti Islands. The paper also tells about thelay abbots from the second half of the 15th century and from the 16th century
