The first part of the article presents the essential aspects of social reintegration, ranging from definitions, to key factors, general principles, ground rules, international and European legislation. The second part of the article presents the evolution of the social reintegration systemin Romania from 1874 onward, focusing on the current situation and analysing the actual situation and the legislative acts in force, as well as the present Romanian Strategy for the social reintegration of prisoners between 2015 and 2019. The final part of the article presents the results of a sociological survey, conducted in March 2015 at the Maximum Security Penitentiary in Craiova and which aimed to test the hypotheses outlined after the analysis of social documents.
