Summary/Abstract: I n t r o d u c t i o n: Children find in a family the most favourable environment fort heir development. Family builds the child’s self-esteem and shapes attitudes towards the world and also impacts directly and indirectly on human well-being. Psychological well-being is dependent on external factors, personality characteristics and their interaction. Parental attitudes seem to be a one of these external factors determining satisfaction with life and they are the topic of the article. M e t h o d s a n d s t u d y g r o u p: The study involved 511 high school students aged 16–19 years. We used methods: Parental Attitudes Retrospective Assessment Questionnaire by Plopa, Huebner SLSS Scale, Scheier, Carver, Bridges’ LOT-R Questionnaire, Scale DS14 by Oginska-Bulik, Juczyński, Denollet. R e s u l t s a n d c o n c l u s i o n s: There is a correlation between parental attitudes and psychological well-being, although its strengthis low. Parental attitudes, especially parental acceptance influences on the level of life satisfaction, optimism and negative emotionality. Boys and girls expect other parental attitudes to feel happy.
