Summary/Abstract: Academic dishonesty is a common phenomenon in Polish and international educational reality. The problem occurs at every educational level – from primary school through graduate and postgraduate studies. Understanding the determinants of this psychological, social and cultural phenomenon should be a priority. The study involved 383 students from secondary schools and higher education students, aged 16 - 20 years. The results indicate that some of the dimensions of achievement motivation can be associated with a lower tendency of young people to cheat on schoolwork. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate the development of such competencies and dimensions of achievement motivation in teaching process in order to grow in adolescents their self-control, perseverance and flexibility, which might prevent dishonest behavior.
