Summary/Abstract: The field research carried out by the Ethnographic Museum of Braşov in the Saxon villages of Southeast Transylvania, during the period 1990 to 2005, besides urgent measures for saving the specific heritage items, was focused particularly on catching on the relation between memory and identity, aiming at capturing the discourse about itself of the Transylvanian Saxons’ community; this syntagm – the Transylvanian Saxons about themselves – meaning how they have related to their history, and to their memory as well, how do they see themselves as against the others, what are their identitarian borders as perceived by them and what does such a perimeter contain, how do they convey it, in different degrees of subjectivity, to other people. It is about restoring a memory in multiple voices, an inherently-subjective memory belonging to some Transylvanian settlements; concretely, we make mention to the local memory of two Saxon villages, namely Viscri and Mesendorf, located in the Rupea region, which belongs to the hilly area of the Tarnava Plateau, opening a long series of restorations of those more than 60 Saxon villages researched by the museum staff.
