Summary/Abstract: For the contemporary universal cinematographic aesthetics, director Andrey Zvyagintsev is one of the most original and influential contemporary voices, whose artistic products render in dark shades the human decay, the mechanisms of emotional failure of the individual who faces the corruption or the social superficiality of the society we live in. Zvyagintsev’s most famous features, Leviathan and Loveless, are remarkable visual experiments depicting the spiritual degradation of the modern individual who struggles to survive in a world where divine justice has disappeared, in which the Russian director uses a series of specific elements defining the emotional crisis of the couple nowadays haunted by an inexplicable tragic halo.
