Summary/Abstract: The article presents the evolution of Ion Andreescu's painting, considered the first artist that the Romanian art gave to humanity in the context of the beginnings of modern European art. Considered by his exegesis as a "painter of the earth" our research identifies the formal elements of birth of the themes and motifs of Andrew's painting in the context of the geographical and historical area. In another order of analysis, we will demonstrate how the poet-painter will evoke in serious notes the matter and materiality of the earth he sublimates with the means of pictorial language, passed through his melancholic spirit. The sublimation of the Earth, its poeticization, will be the permanent element of Andrew's paintings even when the painter chooses to paint motifs not directly related to the landscape.
