Summary/Abstract: The aim of this text is to analyze the regulations adopted in the Lisbon Treaty regarding the EU accession to the European Convention on Human Rights. The Treaty made the accession obligatory. Shortly after the Treaty was ratified the EU opened the negotiations with the Council of Europe on accession treaty.The project of accession treaty was drafted in July 2011 and was the starting point for next round of negotiations. This text lists the legal basis for the EU accession to the Convention. Detailed problems were presented in the formal aspect (form, scope and procedure of accession), institutional aspect (the question of EU representation in the Convention bodies) and material aspect(the question of EU liabilities resulting from the Convention in the context of its work).
