Summary/Abstract: The European Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA) started its activities in 2012. The article aims to show how eu-LISA contributes to ensuring security at the EU’s external borders. The activities of eu-LISA are reflected in the very dynamically progressing process of technologisation and digitization of border management. The scope of tasks entrusted to the Agency has expanded significantly over time, hence it has evolved from a small, technical agency into the “digital heart of Schengen”.
