Summary/Abstract: Rhetoric is one of the arts of using language in order to persuade. Aristotle demonstrated that persuasion is achieved by the rhetorician's personal character when the discourse is so expressed as to make us think him credible. As well, persuasion may come through the believers, when the speech stirs their emotions. Also, persuasion is effected through the speech itself when we have proved a truth with accuracy. In the religious discourse these three modes of persuasion Ŕ ethos, pathos, logos Ŕ are illustrated in different ways. In the case of Ilie Cleopa's discourse, the ethos shows the authority and honesty of the priest. Ilie Cleopa tries to convince the audience by using a specialized vocabulary and a some emotional and tactical scenaries that can persuade easily. His logos is full of citations from the Bible. The perfect model of argumentation requires Ilie Cleopa's ability to combine these three modes of persuasion efficiently.
