Summary/Abstract: The present study tries to highlight the symbolical representation of the expression „goodman” as it appears in stories for children and in carols and proverbs. There will be analysed three stories for children written by Ion Creangă – „the Story of a Pig”, „Five breads”, „Ivan Turbincă”. We meet this way the „goodman” or the „goodwoman” as the traveler in search of a denouement for her destiny, the „goodman” as a hospitable man or participant to feast and the merciful „goodman”, loved by God, who had access to Heaven, but who does not renounnce to several sins in order to accomplish God’swill. There are studied also few carols, who are addressed to the „goodman”, the Christian or the one close to become a Christian. The carols bring Christian message about the nativity of Jesus Christ. The expression „goodman” receives different significations, all reunited under the big idea of the accomplished, discovered or followed Good.
