Summary/Abstract: The economic security is one of the factors of the state and society security. In the article, the term ‘economic security’ refers to the economic basis of a state’s functioning, national economy and society. The chosen ideas of the economic security point to the main streams of approach towards this issue in the context of development processes. The objective of the article is to indicate the implications for socio-economic development resulting from the dependencies between the economic security of a state and its economy and prosperity of the population. The article assumes that contemporary definitions of the economic security should refer to the potentials and concerns for the development processes. In this context, the article highlights the importance of internal factors in the process of providing the economic security. Multidisciplinary nature of the economic security makes it a domain of impact of numerous sectoral policies. Macroeconomic policy along with its selected areas play an essential role in the process, because they may stimulate sustainable socio-economic development. Economic security should be identified not only with the unimpeded functioning of economies due to the maintenance of core development indicators, but assurance of social sustainability as well. Thus in this view, it combines economic and social elements. Besides, the article indicates the political factor of the economic security. Comprehensive context considered, refers to contemporary and desired development trends, namely, sustainable development of a state, economy and society. To an increasing extent, the issue draws attention to the development potential of a country obtained by creating conditions for constructing its economic potential based on social development.
