Summary/Abstract: Zadie Smith’s novel White Teeth is the perfect illustration of a new type of uniqueness characteristic of the New World. East and West come closer together in this exotic narration, redefined by the particular environments people inhabit. The concepts of East and West are thus (re)examined and the paper’s aim is to analyze how difference can turn into sameness when strict definitions of the self can no longer be imposed and individuals state their own affiliation(s).
