Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to analyse the ethical elements in Paul Tillich’s (1886–1965) thought. Allthough he never developed definitive system of ethics, he offered some valuable contribution to ethical issues ih nis various publications. For Tillich ethics is “theonomous”: it emerges from man’s re-unitement with depth of his own reason and is derived from participation in “power of being-itself” (God). Such an ethics – in deep connection with his ontology of human existence – aims to overcome the dificulties in various autonomous and heteronomous ethical theories. Special areas of Tillich’s ethical interest are concepts of ‘love’, ‘power’ and ‘justice’. In elaborating these concepts his aim is to provide basis for individual and social ethics.
