Summary/Abstract: The article proposes a constructive criticism of Sughd hypotheses about the origin of the ancient Turkic alphabet. It reviews the works of scientists proving the autochthonous formation of the ancient Turkic runic alphabet and shows that the tamgas of Eurasian nomads influenced the origin of the majority of runic signs and these signs appeared in the ancient Turkic period. The materials and data were collected from Eurasia: Altai region, Northern Mongolia, Eastern Turkestan, on the territory of modern Kazakhstan, in the southern regions of the modern Russian Federation and the Northern Caucasus, Northern Black Sea coast, Crimea, Romania, Hungary and other parts of the Eurasian continent.
