Summary/Abstract: This article is the first research work presenting the detailed analysis of a well-known local historian V. P. Megorsky’s scholarly activity. The goal of the article is to demonstrate V. P. Megorsky’s contribution to the research of the Olonets region history in the Petrine period through identifying the factors which impacted the formation and development of his research interests. V. P. Megorsky published a number of works on this topic, such as Osudareva Doroga (The Tzar’s Road), Lodeynoye Pole Shipyard during  Peter the Great’s Reign, Mining Activity in the Olonets Region during Peter the Great, Martial Waters Resort in Olonets under  Peter the Great, etc. Special emphasis is placed on V. P. Megorsky’s unpublished manuscript Petrozavodsk during Peter the First. In the article documents and photographs from B. V. Megorsky’s private collection were used. Key words: V. P.
