Summary/Abstract: The essay deals with the issue that is rarely present in the mainstream literature on EU enlargement: Turkish public attitude on the (possible) EU accession. As shown in the paper, Turks are mostly Euro-sceptics and for various reasons: some of them overlapping with Euro-sceptics in the CEE countries before their accession, and some of them do not: the lack of knowledge, the problems of the socalled “sensitive issues”, the hope of the minorities to get necessary protection etc. The EU itself is not helpful at all – dealing mostly with its own problems, and using the “Turkish issue” for domestic purposes, it is helping Euro-scepticism to flourish among the Turks.
