Summary/Abstract: Community of Poles as civil servants in the public administration of Russian Empire on the Lithuanian- Belarusian territory in the nineteenth century is a white stain in Polish historiography. A cursory evaluation of the group might show servility of the group but insightful look at individual biographies raises doubts of its absolute submission. Many of the officials, losing their hope for political change in the territory annexed to Russia, tried to find their place in the reality after partition on the one hand, and not lose their national identity on the other. Certainly, tsarist’s officials of Polish origin were not a monolith. This is a group, which could be devoted to in-depth studies without stereotypical thinking about „a foreign uniform”.
