Summary/Abstract: Symbols are being used by human kind from the earliest times. Nowadays they can represent certain type of cultures’ expression. In the context of military culture, this article aims to present and analyse the place of, role of and manner in which military symbols can influence the attitude of the local population towards the presence of multinational forces, the perceived military power of a state and the internal cohesion of a military group (including those elements that contribute to increase the morale of the troops participating in multi-national joint missions). The demarche starts from taking into account some theoretical aspects regarding symbols as a reflection of culture in general and then as a reflection of military culture in particular. The main body of the paper focuses on presenting a series of different symbols’ exemplification. Some of them refer at highlighting the power of a group, other take into account the importance of symbols in underlining the cohesion of a group of individuals (representing a particular culture: the military one). These can influence the operational efficiency and fulfilling the planned goals of a military mission. The examples provided in this article are meant to emphasize the topicality, the relevance and importance of symbols for states, military and public opinion.
