Summary/Abstract: The history of Chinese theater has an important role in the evolution of universal spiritual and artistic culture. The purpose of this article is to elucidate the specificity of the traditional Chinese spectacular art as a pre-text for the development and subsequent evolution of the institutional theater. Starting from the essence of the Chinese art as a unified ensemble, with the implications of traditional philosophy on the integration of art in nature and the universe, the author describes two of the oldest forms of spectacular art in China that emerged in the ancient era: the shadow theater and the traditional opera. These, like other Chinese theatrical forms, are characterized by a pronounced syncretism: the harmonious blending of music, pictorial sculptural and literary arts, etc. The specificity of the traditional Chinese opera is based on a synthesis of drama, opera, dance, choral poetry and recital, including mimics, acrobatics, recited farces and ballads. A number of traditional works from large cultural centers are known, and in this article the author refers to the specifics of Beijing traditional Chinese opera (Beijing-style) and the Sichuan style opera.
