Summary/Abstract: The article is a review of the book The Linguistic Picture of the Man in the Prophetic Books of the Old Testament (J. Szarlej, Bielsko-Biała 2013). The author, on the basis of the theory of the linguistic picture of the world, reconstructs the image of a human being in biblical culture, which is often obliterated in translations. She considers six basic Hebrew roots, specifying a man as human species, as a biological and personal entity, exposing the homo-animal and body-soul relation in comparison to (above all) the Polish language; human activity, relation to other creatures and God, gender complementarity. She reconstructs pre-scientific images of a human being. She perceives Biblical anthropology within its theocentrism, recognizes the biblical sources of personalistic philosophy, in deep axiological perspective.
