Summary/Abstract: The sociology of youth subcultures has never been strictly established, but most authors deem that its beginnings date back to the twenties and thirties of the 20th century and can be found in the works of the Chicago School. The theory of delinquent subculture from the fifties, the interactionist contribution of the early sixties, the occurrence of counter-culture in the late sixties and the domination of the Birmingham School in the seventies and eighties represent commonplaces in the development of sociology of subculture, including today's (postmodern) period in which the concept of subculture has been renounced.
