Summary/Abstract: The paper concerns with the function of stereotypes in the interpersonal communication. A study on stereotypical perceptions to delinquent children in a sample of students is presented. According to this purpose, the method which is based on the model SCM (Fiske et al., 2002) is used. The hypothesis for a link between individual feature „social dominance orientation“ and the formation of stereotypical thinking to children with asocial and antisocial behavior is tested. The survey results show that there is no correlation between „social dominance orientation“ and the dimensions of the stereotypes related to the delinquent children – „warmth“ and „competence“. Also, there were no effects on the stereotypical thinking related to gender of the respondents. Interpretation of results outlines the need for specialized training aimed at overcoming the negative stereotypes as a barrier to the effective work of professionals dealing with corrective and preventive action.
