Summary/Abstract: The literary work of Mihajlo Kovac was significantly influenced by the classics of the Ukrainian literature, one of them being Les Martovic. Kovac used to say that he most liked to read the work of the authors whom he could understand and feel. He continues the tradition of the Ukrainian writers, as well as the tradition of Les Martovic, but he is not an epigone writer, because the motives and themes he dealt with in his work, which had been influenced by other writers, were adapted to the life experience of his compatriots in Vojvodina. As a source of Martovic's work I used the book Stribogov poklon, in which were collected his social, satirical stories. Martovic was primarily interested in social and state organization where he noticed only two classes. On one hand, there were peasants, and on the other landlords, or those who were in power. The peasants in his stories are conscious of their difficult situation and fight against it. Kovac's peasants are also conscious of their difficult situation, but they, as Ruthenians, had always respected their authorities and since they did not live in their own country, it was impossible for them to struggle against them. Martovic and Kovac's peasants have one thing in common – the craving for justice. However, in Kovac this is an inner struggle, restricted to the consciousness of an individual, it has not become public.
