Summary/Abstract: The main thesis of this study refers to the fact that, in a globalized world system, the solidity of the trans-Atlantic relation is crucial for the American leadership, as well as for the success of the EU as a major security global actor. The study contains several themes regarding the trans-Atlantic relations> the functioning of those relations in the first half of the 20th century and especially during the two World Wars< the relation between the United States and the West during the Cold War as a condition and support for the process of European construction< the malfunctions occurred within the US-EU relation after the end of the Cold War and some remarks over the dossier of the American-European relations at the beginning of the 21st century, as well as an assessment over the trans-Atlantic relations on medium and short term.
