Values in manorial discourse in the light of the novel "Lala" written by Jacek Dehnel

Summary/Abstract: The article presents a tiny part of manorial discourse, namely the one which allows to reconstruct the essential values of the discourse in question through its lexis. In order to accomplish that purpose the appellative and proprial layers of the vocabulary have been used. The former forms a distinctive and abundant semantic field, which may be treated as a kind of world map of the landed gentry’s reality. The latter, not so numerous but from a qualitative point of view important and specific, is composed of signals, references, catalysts of manorial culture values. The analyses carried out from that perspective allowed to identify the values essential for the landed gantry’s values in the sphere of hedonistic, cognitive and moral values.
