Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on ethics in Turkish universities and its importance for their good functioning starting with the description of the major policies and rules provided by the Academic Ethics Code that makes clear what is permitted and what is not, as information and prevention. Once they are spread to everyone, they take responsibility of their acts. Since ancient times, ethics has been associated with happiness and goodness, the ideal of humanity across ages. Besides the natural propensity of people to be moral and happy for the security of themselves and of the community they live and work in, it is teachers’ ‘sacred’ duty to educate the young generation in the sense of being or becoming ethical. The paper also tries to demonstrate the need of rules for ethics, either as prevention or a basis for sanction, by exemplifying with the situation of our university in terms of the developed framework that requires correct behaviour and moral principles. This is what we expect of our leaders, colleagues and students, a reason why ethics code integrates the core values for anyone to be a good citizen and professional within an institution and in the society.
