Summary/Abstract: This paper features integral translations of works by Alba de Cespedes into Romanian. The works concerned are the novel Nessuno torna indietro (1938), translated in 1940, the collection of short-stories Fuga (1940), translated in 1943, and the novel Quaderno proibito (1952), translated in 1969, due to the endeavours of the Editura pentru Literature Universala, a prestigious publishing house. The author aims at explaining the motives that led the translators to cope with these works, as well as reflecting on the reasons that contributed to the marginalisation of De Cespedes’ oeuvre in Romania as of the fifties of the 20th century. In addition, we draw attention to the fact that the termination of publishing translations of Alba de Cespedes’ works had a negative impact on her presence and reception in Romanian literary circles. Furthermore, we will focus on certain passages to show some aspects of Aurel Lambrino’s translation of Quaderno proibito and put into perspective, the censorship by Romania’s Communist authorities, which affected literary circles as well.
