Gender identity has become the bearer of any for of community interaction, whether public or private. Therefore,Plato questions the traditional assignment of gender roles. He propose a new approach where to intellectual abilities ought to be the only criterion of distinction. Consequently, women and man who have the same mental capacity should engage in the same occupation, have equal access to education and take on more responsibility in the community. This idea complies with the principle of fairness by which it is necessary to perform tasks that are in accordance with one’s nature in order to contribute to betterment of the society. The significance of Plato’s insights in the role of woman is to eliminate gender differences and highlight the importance of eoman’s mental abilities in politics. Taking into consideration the fact that Plato was interested in the extent to which an emancipated women could contribute to the community, the author finds that Plato’s notes of the political role of woman should be understood as a serious and progressive idea whose implications resonate with various feminist orientations.
