Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of listening comprehension. Listening comprehension is crucial in the development of second language competence. In this connection the problem of developing sound strategies for comprehension acquires special significance. A university lecturer activity has fundamental task to teach students how to listen and develop their own metacognitive knowledge. This paper provides an overview of listening comprehension process because understanding how foreign language listening comprehension works can have a serious influence on choosing teaching strategies and techniques. The aim of the paper is to discuss the practical and methodological value of some listening strategies. The materials of this article may be of use to those who are interested in problems of speech perception and improving the existing listening comprehension teaching techniques.
