Summary/Abstract: The article examines a topic insufficiently studied so far. The aim of the author is to reveal the relations between the Bulgarian government and the German companies, the problems that emerged in the course of the negotiations between them and how they were solved. The necessity of building a developed railway network is shown in connection with the development of the foreign trade relations between Germany and Bulgaria. The work is based on documents from German archives, which present the German perspective on the issues at hand. The study highlights the contribution of the German companies for the modernization of the Bulgarian State Railways which is related to the renovation and expansion of the railway park, according to the latest and most modern achievements in the field of railway technology.
