Summary/Abstract: In recent years “disinformation” – more popular nowadays as “fake news” – is again in the center of international relations as a powerful weapon to achieve foreign policy goals. The historic reconstruction of the Soviet-led “disinformation” campaign during the Cold War displays that Russia’s current tactics of distributing “fake news” is quite the same. The difference is that today it reaches anywhere in the world, including the United States itself, which makes it far more successful. In the fight against it, the United States can learn many lessons, both positive and negative, from its Cold War experience.
