EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECT OF SMED METHODOLOGY ON THE SETUP TIME AND UNIT COST: APPLICATION IN THE STEEL BAR PEELING PRODUCTION LINE

Summary/Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the SMED method on setup time and unit time cost. Method: The SMED methodology was used to improve the setup times. The effect of the obtained results on unit cost was evaluated with the FTM system. Findings: As a result, 66% and 62.5% improvement was achieved in the two adjustment processes. The one minute improvement provided during set-up times and other stops provides a reduction of 0.0000514 TL in unit costs. Reducing in total setup times have reduced unit costs by 0.85 TL. Results: In order to determine how the reducing setup time of SMED applications are affected by the cost of production unit cost, the SMED application effects must be monitored over the cost system.
