Summary/Abstract: The conversation concerns the political in education and educational theory. It addresses the dimensions of identity and identification. The key questions, concerning the performative nature of educational rhetoric and the ontology of educational theory are discussed in the perspective of Ernesto Laclau’s concept of the political, and in the context of contemporary social issues – the legacy of post-communist transformation, the threat of authoritarianism and the fascist tendencies visible in the modern public sphere.
