Summary/Abstract: This article aims to outline the main aspects of the cultural context in the test evaluation of students’ achievement and particularly in the international assessment studies. A few typical deviations in the process of creating test instrumentsare described, which could lead to unreliable results of students’ performance if the influence of different cultural characteristics is not recognized. The article focuses on some of the procedures used in the development and in the work on international studies such as PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS and ICCS to report on and minimize the impact of cultural influence on students’ achievements.
