Summary/Abstract: One of the ways of establishing group preferences is by a method of comparison of alternatives in pairs. It has been proposed by Condorcet and until today it has been consi-dered a principle of group selection methods. The idea of comparison in pairs may be forma-lized using a preference index. Moreover, the concept can be generalized in such a way as to acknowledge Borda’s method of point aggregation of opinion. This work shows the generalization, and it demonstrates that rather than in the case of the Condorcet method, the concentration of individual opinions does not lead to a conclusive selection of an unam-biguous preference most compatible with the opinions of the electorate.
