Summary/Abstract: The article presents a description of demographic changes in Opole Voivodeship from the moment of the creation of this administrative unit to the present day. Against the background of a short outline of the historical process of the settling of the lands incorporated into Poland in 1945, there is a discussion of the problems related to the increase in the number of residents of this region, with particular consideration of the role of the intensive outflow of people in shaping the population. The topic of ethnicity is also touched upon – the diversity of regional origins of residents of Opole Voivodeship and its influence on the demographic situation both in a historical perspective and in terms of the current spatial make-up of the Voivodeship.
