Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the demographic processes and structures on the territory of the three voivodeships of Silesia in the years 1945–2018. The subject of the analysis are the basic demographic processes analysed in the spatial arrangements of Silesian, Opole and Lower-Silesian voivodeships. The source base encompasses rich statistical material from general censuses of the Statistics Poland – formerly Central Statistical Office – and research of the Silesian Institute in Opole. The voivodeships of Silesia have been a knowledge laboratory for the study of demographic processes, considering their diversification in terms of demographic situation resulting from different ethnic and regional origin, birth rate, disturbances in population growth, scale of migration processes, levels of education and professional activity, as well as structures of employment. Demographic processes underwent a series of phases and evinced differences in respective poviats, cities and municipalities. Demographic processes have had a substantial influence on the socio-economic situation. They indicate a deepening demographic crisis, depopulating borderlands and unfavourable changes in the demographic structure consisting in the insufficient generation replacement rate and the process of population ageing. The demographic conditions for the regional and local policy in the examined voivodeships of Silesia require new considerations and conceptions in the development strategy and attention paid to their unfavourable process until 2050.
