Educational Value of Work in Encyclical Laborem Exercens

Summary/Abstract: Performing work is connected with development of knowledge and skills, social and personal competences and forming character, which leads to self-education of the person performing it. The target of this study is showing educational dimension of work based on encyclical Laborem Exercens by John Paul II as well as drawing attention to the work-related values, connected with work as development area of a person and their humanity. Therefore education and self-education-related issues will be presented in this study, concerning preparation for work, values associated with it and insights into work-related sources of forming a person’s subjectivity. The study is of theoretical character and presents deliberations based on the pope’s encyclical and literature on education, values, forming subjectivity and work pedagogy.
