Summary/Abstract: Knighthood as a military and landowners' aristocracy occurred in the Franks in connection with the transition in the 8th century from a naval infantry army to a horse troop of vassals. Under the influence of the Church and poetry, it produces a moral and aesthetic ideal of a warrior, and in the era of the Crusades, under the influence of the then-spirit-knightly orders, it is seized in a hereditary aristocracy known as an international military order. Strengthening state power, superiority of infantry before the cavalry, the invention of firearms, and the creation of a permanent army make feudal knighthood, at the end of the Middle Ages, into a political class of the uneducated aristocracy.
